We used an inertial navigation system [INS] in our instrumented helicopter for the first time on the 2007 SIPEX voyage. This gave us lots of information - in addition to GPS location [latitude, longitude, altitude], we have the pitch, roll and heading of the helicopter. These data will be critical for interpreting the laser scanner results. They will also enable us for the first time, to rectify all our aerial photographs and get some really good data from them!
